Proceeds from the recent St. Stephen's Day 4 Mile road race were presented to the Bowel Cancer Treatment Fund at the C.U.H. A total of €3,104.20 was presented by club chairman Tom Tobin to Mr. Mogan McCourt (Surgeon). Included in the photo are Mary Hannon, John Copithorne, Nicola Desmond, Rosaleen Walsh, Flor Lovell, Anne & Jemma Murphy

Once again, Thank you to all athletes, joggers, fun runners and walkers who took part in our annual event and helped to raise this amount and to those who also donated to the fund.

BELGOOLY 4 MILE ROAD RACE - St. Stephen's Day - LAUNCHED - 2011

The Annual Dick Copithorne 4 Mile Road Race was launched on November 25th at Belgooly Community Centre, Present at the launch were members of Belgooly A.C., Mayor of Belgooly Ger O'Riordan and Nurse Ann Murphy of the Bowel Cancer Treatment Fund at the C.U.H.

The race will start in Belgooly at 12 noon on St. Stephen's Day, Entry fee is €10.00 and 50% of the fee will be donated to the Bowel Cancer Treatment Fund at Cork University Hospital. Funds raised will be put towards the purchase of new equipment and also an information day will be held in April, April is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month.

Entries will be taken from 9.30 a.m at Belgooly G.A.A. Grounds.

All athletes, Joggers, Fun Runners and walkers welcome.

Kinsale Regatta 5 Mile Road Race - Friday July 29th 2011

After much discussion among ourselves, stewards, officials and athletes the Kinsale Regatta Race is back by popular demand!!!

The flat and fast 5 mile course remainds the same with the start at Kinsale G.A.A. Grounds and will finish at the Bank of Ireland in Kinsale Town.

Entry fee is €10.00 and 50% of the entry will be donated to the Kinsale branch of the Irish Disabled Sailing Association.

Presentation of prizes and refreshments will be held in the Temperance Hall (approx 1 min walk from the finish line).

We are forced once again to CANCEL our Annual 4 mile road race due to circumstances beyond our control - Called the weather and freezing conditions. For Health and Safety reasons and the fact that most of Belgooly village is without water we have no option but to postpone.

St Stephens Day Weather Update - Friday 24th - On inspection of the course we have discovered that conditions have deteriorated slightly but the temperatures are still on course to rise on Christmas Day.. We are still hopeful........ Another issue has arisen that many households in the village are without a supply of water, so we will monitor the situation throughout today and tomorrow. We will update again tomorrow morning...... HAPPY CHRISTMAS.....

A slight frost has hit the roads this morning but with a clear sky overhead we except it would be clear within the hour. As temperatures are set to increase slightly on Christmas Day we are still hopefull that the race will go ahead.

Kinsale Regatta 5 Mile Road Race...31st July 2009

A total of 188 runners turned out for the Kinsale Regatta 5 Mile Road Race on Friday evening, the 31st of August 2009. Despite the wet weather all day, the rain stopped just before the start of the race to let the runners race in near perfect conditions.

We would like to thank everyone for taking part and making the race such a success. As half of the entry fee was for charity, a total of €940 was raised for the Kinsale Community Hospital.

Membership and Club info

Belgooly AC are based just South of Cork City and we have members from both Cork City and County. We cater mostly for track and field events for young people between the ages of 7-18 and we also have a growing number of senior athletes aged at the moment between 18 and 25. All track and field events are catered for with a special interest in hurdling, long and triple jump, high jump, shot and all track distances. We have the facilities to carry out all throwing events if an interest is expressed.

We welcome members of all ages to the club. Our senior side is quite strong in quality but just low in numbers. For a serious track athlete, the club can provide coaching for those wishing to compete at any level nationally or internationally.

Membership is currently €20 per person per year and €50 for a family of 3 or more. All athletes are charged the same membership, both juvenile or senior (A senior is over the age of 18 years).

We train at the CIT track behind the Cork Institute of Technology in Bishopstown every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 7pm to 8pm. If you are interested in joining us, just turn up at about 6:50pm at the track clubhouse. Parking is available behind the CIT track.

We also have training for 7 to 12 year olds in the Colaiste Muire secondary school sports hall in Crosshaven on Wednesday nights. The primary school age group train from 7:15-8:00pm while older athletes do circuits here from 8.00-8.30pm.

Directions...from Crosshaven, take the road for Myrtleville. Just as you climb the hill, you will see a small church on the right (Church of Ireland). Take the right just after it and the road will take you in towards Colaiste Muire and the Sports Hall.

Kinsale annual 5 Mile Road Race

We hold a 5 mile road race every year on the Friday evening of the Bank Holiday weekend at the start of every August. The registration point for the event is at the Kinsale GAA grounds up above the town and the start time is 8pm. Our race has a reputation of being one of the fastest 5 mile courses around as it starts on a hill and finishes down in the town near level.

Directions...

If you are coming into Kinsale from Cork, do not take the road that turns left towards the quays. Instead, carry on until you hit a T-junction. Turn left here onto the Bandon road and climb the hill. About 1 mile later at the top of the hill, you will see the GAA grounds on the right.

Our annual race, the Dick Copithorne Memorial 4 mile run takes place every St. Stephens’s Day at 12 noon. The sign-on is in the GAA club in Belgooly. If you are coming from Cork City, take the road for Kinsale. When you enter Belgooly, pass the church and take the next right at the only crossroads in the village. The GAA clubhouse is about 200 metres down this road on the left (shown as an X on the map above).
