The
All Ireland individual athletics championships too place over two weekends in
July. Belgooly AC had three athletes qualify for the championships, Tom Deasy
in the boys under 16 high jump, long jump and 100m hurdles, Padraig Nash in the
boys under 14 75m hurdles and Erica Deasy in the girls under 13 high jump. All
competed very well, Tom equalled his pb in the high jump and set new pb in both
the long jump and hurdles and Padraig Nash set a new pb in the hurdles. While
neither athlete won medals this time around they did make the finals in their
respective events and the new pbs are an indication that training is going very
well and should set them up well for the all Ireland CE championships in
August. Erica competed in the last event of the second day. In a large field
she did not let the occasion get to her and cleared all heights up to 1.35m on
the first attempt and was very unlucky at 1.40m just clipping the bar with her
heal on her last attempt but her clean card was rewarded with a bronze medal well
done Erica.
